​    I always felt close with this italian team! From the first moment  I Knew that we were going to do great things together.... I felt comfort to all of you... Why? I couldn't say why...

Till recently ... I read an article... It was send to me by Marina,  my first best friend who still lives in the greek island of Rhodes. After that it was all clear to me! There was a bond between me and Italy... Something from the past... I found out something, that took me 50 years to  realize it!

Please let me introduce a spot in Greece, a green litle spot in a famous greek island Rhodes.

This place is full of my very first memories. I was born  there and I had my very first steps in this amazing  land 50 years ago! I left from there at the age of three. So all the memories was so confused....

Let me recall my memories and also introduce to you

Campochiaro:

An Italian village - Ghost in Rhodes- Sanatorium

Campochiaro: An Italian village - Ghost in Rhodes, near the village Eleousa. It is an abandoned village in the wooded foothills of the Profitis Ilias mountain.

The built Italians (Campochiaro was the original name). The Prophet Elijah resided official visitors to Rhodes. Square Merciful is surrounded by majestic buildings.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The largest, with arches and curved small balconies, was the market. Opposite was the prison (now serves as a school). At one end of the square stood the sanatorium and the other is the church of Saint Charalambos, once universal and now orthodox. A few meters after the square, there is a large round water tank, which collected the waters of the nearby source of the sifter.

Therein lives a fairly large population of gizani (rare type of fish). It is the remains of a population that no longer exists, that the stream width.

The Italian rule in Rhodes

The People of Rhodes, wounded from the Turkish slavery, hoping to release even after four centuries. But neither then he managed to escape from the yoke of the conqueror, and a few months before the release Greece in the Balkan wars of 1912, the Dodecanese islands, occupied by the Italians. So a new enslavement begins for Rhodes, now the Italian occupiers, which will last about 35 years, says the publication secretrhodes.gr.

Italy presented the Dodecanese as an ally, deliverer, the people of reserved fervent reception and developed a Greek-Italian friendship. The Italian authorities built roads, the upgraded schools, residents began to educate themselves, were free to keep their faith and living standards changed from degrading into decent.

The second phase of the Italian occupation of Rhodes and the Dodecanese, was the era of fascism. However for Italians, were many utilities projects such as road building, establishment of museums and archaeological service, the settlement of the castle area, tourist promotion Rhodes etc. But the residents were considered Italian nationals in the Dodecanese, the main concern of the authorities in the de-Hellenization. This sought by imposing Italian celebrations, with marriages, with the cancellation of Greek type, etc.

With the declaration of war in 1939, Rhodes is at war alarm and though cut off from news of the rest of Greece, stands in moral Greeks struggling. With the entry of Germans in Athens in 1941, some of them settled and Rhodes, who dominated the Italians. That was the end of the Italian occupation in the Dodecanese, end violent, inhuman caused compassion of the locals, who were trying to stop it despite what had suffered from them.
