“Enrichment beyond the classroom”
GREECE and ITALY
join a Mediterranean math-collaboration!
etwinning project 2015-2016

Hello from Greece!!!
My name is Katerina Atmatzidou.
I'm a mathematician.
I teach for 15 years in a public school 60 km far away from Athens and 10 km from Chalkida, a seaside town.
My students are 16-17 years old. I loooooove teaching Maths. Maths can be everywhere!
Last year I established the first MathLaboratory in our area called: Dare to dream and think "POSSITIVE". I worked "alone " here in Greece with 30 students. We all need the POSSITIVE aspect of what is around us... Have a look and I would be very happy to share this project. Ofcourse I'll be interested in any other project that makes my students feel the benefits of collaboration.
Since then...KEEP GOING DREAMERS ALL OVER EUROPE!!!
Hello from Italy!!!
My name is Matilde Aimeta.
I'm a mathematician.
I have been teaching Maths for 15 years in High School and I also taught Physics at secondary level.
I would like to improve my English as well as to find new teaching methodologies, for my subjects.
It would be interesting to compare different European insitutions, in order to enrich my approach to teaching.

As Goleman saids regards
to the emotional intelligence:
" We have two minds , one that thinks ,
the other feels .
These two modes of knowledge ,
so fundamentally different ,
interact to construct
our mental life . "
"...It has been a great experience ,
a fun way to study math and
enhance English language skills ,
as well as to improve collaboration among the students..."

What’s the way we decided to work.
Otherwise: the Difference Between “Doing Projects” and “Project Based Learning”
Thanks to Amy Mayer for this fantastic comparison describing the key differences between “doing projects” and project-based learning! This is exactly what we have been trying so ineptly to explain to our collegues at our own schools. There’s a BIG difference, and one that completely changes how the classroom is run and what students take out of it.
It is obvious that among the other benefits, eTwinning let teachers follow their dream about the approach of their own teaching. We love teaching following the steps of our dreams about Math!

"TELL ME AND I FORGET,
TEACH ME AND I REMEMBER,
INVOLVE ME AND I LEARN"
This Benjamin Franklin's quote perfectly define PBL.
There's just effective learning when we are involved in the process. We can't have students anymore sitting quietly listening to their teachers. In this project we try to practice and figure out the difference between doing a project and PBL.

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn,
unlearn and
relearn.
Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.
In this project
we will try to
light
a big fire!

Our voki about collaboration.
Click on it to hear!
"Get the ticket
to your dreams
and ...use it!"

CRITICAL THINKING allows the individual to manage information. Information presented in a multitude of forms from a variety of media. Information that must be filtered and analyzed, authenticated and processed, and eventually must be synthesized in a form that will be useful to the individual. CRITICAL THINKING is PROBLEM SOLVING, the ability to take information and put it to use to create solutions.
COMMUNICATION provides the means by which the individual can present information. Information presented in a multitude of means through a variety of media. COMMUNICATION must be CLEAR and CONCISE, effective and engaging, and eventually be presented in a way that is meaningful to the individual and the audience.
COLLABORATION engages the individual in the world they share through association. Association, that is created to benefit an COMMUNITY and as a means to conduct processes of the world we share. COLLABORATION that includes partnership and teamwork, leadership and assistance, and alliance that serves to benefit the whole.
CREATIVITY provides the avenue for expression. The structure means nothing without function. Therefore, the individual must be capable of CREATING something with the knowledge that they have worked so hard to obtain. It is in CREATING that the individual gains purpose.
CULTURE encourages the individual to appreciate where we have come from, who we are now and how we can move into the future. CULTURE associates the individual to all that surrounds them: art, drama, dance poetry, history, science, religion, written and unwritten language, technology and the individual themselves.
CONNECTIVITY places the individual in touch with their world. In today’s existence that is increasingly through the technology that is rapidly changing the way they view their world. Understanding that connections are personal no matter what the means of contact and that humanity must remain in light of how the technology may change for each individual.
